About the Subscription and Non-Subscription Purchase Options

Cascable has two purchase options: Subscription and Non-Subscription.

The Subscription option is a recurring payment, and you’ll have the newest features and updates at all times while your subscription is active (and you’re running a device new enough to receive the newest updates). You can cancel at any time to revert back to the free version of Cascable, and resubscribe to get Pro features again.

The Non-Subscription option is an up-front payment that isn’t recurring. You get all of the features available when you purchase, and a generous amount of feature upgrades going forward. There’s no subscription to tend to, and we recommend this option if you’re frequently in situations without an internet connection — subscriptions need an internet connection for verification each time a renewal occurs, and a badly-timed renewal while out in the field could be a pain to deal with.

Can I switch from subscription to non-subscription?

Yes. The process depends on how in a hurry you are:

Do I get free updates forever with the non-subscription option?

Why isn’t your non-subscription option “lifetime” like some other apps?

We don’t promise you’ll get free updates forever, and the word “lifetime” starts getting complicated when you start asking “Whose lifetime?”. Instead, we promise that the non-subscription option is the best value for money in the long-term.

As a more detailed answer, it’s impossible for us to keep updating the app with new features, support for new iOS versions, and support for new cameras forever. Therefore, when a large feature update comes along, we may charge an upgrade fee to access those new features. We’ll always have a generous free upgrade policy for folks who bought the app close to such an update coming out, and buying the non-subscription option and every subsequent feature upgrade will be better value for money in the long-term than a subscription.

We hope our track record backs us up — Cascable 1.0 launched in 2015, and we’ve had two paid feature updates since then: one at Cascable 3.0, and another at Cascable 7.0.
