Cascable 3.0 Beta Known Issues & Release Notes
This page contains release notes and known issues for the Cascable 3.0 Beta Program.
If you have feedback, please use the “Give Feedback” option in the Cascable app while connected to your camera, under the help menu. This will attach important diagnostic information to your email that’ll help us debug your problem.
Unlocking Pro Features
In order to unlock Cascable’s Pro features for testing, you need to do so as normal via the in-app store. During the beta period your purchase is free and you will not be charged, even though the prices will be listed as normal.
IMPORTANT: This confirmation screen will be shown after you tap “Buy” and are asked for your Apple ID password. Unfortunately, the purchase process is done by the App Store infrastructure and we can’t bring this confirmation forward.
After entering your Apple ID password, the purchase confirmation dialog will confirm that you won’t be charged.
Geotagging Overview
Build 1488 introduces Cascable 3.0’s main new feature (apart from Fuji and Panasonic support): Geotagging!
Cascable’s geotagging tools are designed to provide everything you’ll need for your geotagging workflow:
-
Drag and drop photos (including multiple photos at once) onto the map to tag photos manually.
-
Record your location history while you’re out and about shooting. When you’re done, Cascable can automatically tag your photos based on timestamp, including tools for correcting differences between the times on your iOS device and your camera (we’ve all forgotten to change the time on our cameras when travelling!).
-
If you’d rather geotag on your computer when you get back, you can export your location tracks as GPX files for use in Adobe Lightroom or any other GPX-supporting app.
-
Control over whether to include geotags when exporting images for use elsewhere.
-
Support for geotags already embedded into images by cameras with GPS hardware.
Known Issues: General
-
In some places, camera settings (such as white balance, drive modes, film simulation modes, etc) can be displayed with the wrong icon and/or title, and in the wrong order.Fixed in build 1589. -
When viewing the “What’s new in Cascable?” section of the app, you’ll be told what was new in Cascable 2.4.Fixed in build 1517.
Known Issues: Fujifilm Cameras

-
Fujifilm cameras do not allow access to RAW images over Wi-Fi.

Fujifilm cameras, by default, will resize images down to approximately 3 megapixels. For best results with Cascable, turn this off on your camera in WiFi Connection Setting → Wireless settings → Resize image for smartphone → OFF.

Cascable does not currently show photos from both SD card slots on Fujifilm cameras with more than one SD slot.Fixed in build 1491. -
Shot review does not currently work with Fujifilm cameras.
-
Drive and focus modes cannot be viewed or changed on Fujifilm cameras.
-
Bulb is not yet supported on Fujifilm cameras.
Known Issues: Panasonic Cameras
-
When using focus modes like “Pinpoint”, it’s possible to get into a state where you need to push the “Exit” button on the camera before it’ll respond to further control from Cascable.
-
Shot review does not currently work with Panasonic cameras.
-
When switching to/from photo management, Cascable can fail to correctly update the list of photos available on Panasonic cameras.

Build 1517
Released June 23rd, 2017
-
New feature: Cascable will now “migrate” your old photo database, extracting geotags from photos copied before 3.0. This doesn’t really affect beta testers that didn’t use Cascable 2.x.
-
New feature: On supported cameras, the viewfinder image can been zoomed in. Due to camera limitations, this is only supported for Canon and Nikon cameras.
-
New feature: When using Quick Proof, you can rotate and flip images.
-
Improved camera detection in certain circumstances.
-
A large internal change affecting certain cameras. This shouldn’t cause any noticeable changes.
Build 1507
Released June 16th, 2017
-
New feature: Cascable can optionally sync your camera’s date and time with your iOS device’s date and time when it connects. Due to limitations in some cameras, this is only available for Canon, Nikon, and Olympus cameras.
-
New feature: When using Shutter Robot, an overlay will be displayed on the viewfinder image to let you know how many shots and how much time is remaining.
-
New feature: If you’re running iOS 10.3 or higher, Cascable will use an alternate app icon when enabling Night Mode.
-
When using Night Mode, the iOS status bar (containing the time etc) now correctly turns white.
Build 1498
Released June 12th, 2017
-
New feature: When viewing high-resolution previews of photos on your camera, you can now swipe to view the previous/next photo.
-
Reworked Geotagging’s location tracking feature so that Cascable now only needs to ask for “When In Use” permission for your location instead of “Always”.
-
Dropped support for iOS 9. Cascable 3.0 was always documented as requiring iOS 10 or higher to run, but from this build that’s actually the case.
-
Further increased reliability of file access multi-slot Fujifilm cameras.
-
When shooting with Fujifilm cameras, new images shot with Cascable should now show up when switching to view the photos on your camera.

-
Fujifilm cameras should no longer appear in the available cameras list multiple times.
Build 1488
Released May 30th, 2017
New Features
- Added Cascable 3.0’s main new feature: Geotagging! This has taken a lot of work and is still a little rough around the edges, but we wanted to get something out to you.
Build 1449
Released April 28th, 2017
New Features
- Added a zebra stripes overlay to help see overexposed areas. You can find it in the overlays pop-up in the remote control screen.
Fixes
-
Cascable no longer shows “phantom” RAW files from older Panasonic cameras. Unfortunately, this means that RAW files aren’t available on older Panasonic cameras like the GX7. These cameras list RAW files when Cascable asks for the list of files, but won’t actually let apps access them.
-
The viewfinder image from Fujifilm cameras no longer has black bars around it. This also improves the accuracy of the histogram.
-
On older/slower iOS devices, Cascable now ensures its UI remains fluid by reducing the camera viewfinder framerate.
-
If Cascable is unable to get a photo’s creation date from the camera, it will no longer be placed under the “December 29, 1” heading when copied over.
Things Made Worse (Hopefully A Rare Heading)
- When working with Fujifilm cameras with multiple card slots and that have cards in both slots, Cascable will now show images from both slots. However, fetching metadata, thumbnails, previews and the files themselves isn’t reliable at all, and may fail or give you the wrong image. This should be improved with the next build.
Build 1441
Released April 11th, 2017
- Fixed an issue would cause RAW files in RAW+JPEG pairs on Panasonic cameras to be misidentified if Cascable can’t determine the date/time the photo was taken.
Build 1438
Released April 10th, 2017
-
Fixed a problem that could cause some Fuji models (notably the X100T) to not be detected.
-
Fixed a crash that could occur when setting the ISO on Fuji models, and another that could occur when turning off Fuji cameras while Cascable was connected.
-
The viewfinder histogram will now display correctly for Panasonic cameras.
-
Made some changes to help debug a problem where RAW images are incorrectly identified on Panasonic cameras.
Build 1436
Released April 7th, 2017
- Initial release.
